In my current position as the inaugural Vice Chancellor for Real Estate, I established the University’s Office of Real Estate as a financially self-sustaining responsibility center. Under my leadership, the Office develops and implements the University’s real estate strategy to meet core space needs, support community and economic development objectives, activate campus edges, and generate commercial revenue. My diverse team of real estate professionals is responsible for leasing, acquisition, and disposition of real property assets as well as management of the University’s commercial asset portfolio and strategic partnerships with private developers. A key function of the office is to synthesize the academic, economic, physical, social and civic implications of University real estate decisions and secure Board of Trustees approval for transactions.
Prior to Pitt, as Managing Director at the University of Pennslvania, I directed operations, leasing, and development for Penn’s 23-acre innovation campus. During my tenure, I established the office of the Managing Director, refocused the development plan to attract private investment and structured the process to select a partner for Pennovation’s first privately financed lab and biomanufacturing facility. I successfully reversed a decade of operating losses through a new leasing strategy and strengthened the campus’s role as a hub for research commercialization and startup growth.
Prior to joining Penn, I served as head of Amtrak’s corporate Real Estate Development Department, progressing through multiple leadership roles during my tenure. I was responsible for overseeing 2,000+ property agreements across 500+ stations, 1.5M SF of office space, and 1,200 acres of industrial land. Led strategic planning, transactions, and development initiatives to support operational and commercial goals. Managed an 18-member team and modernized Amtrak’s real estate function.
Before Amtrak, I held leadership positions at major planning and architectural firms, including tvsdesign, Hillier, WRT, and Architects’ Combine. In this role, I led a wide range of transformative urban projects in communities throughout the United States and overseas, including China, India, Chile, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Dubai.
I have devoted his career to improving urban life — enabling people to live and work together in the most inclusive and environmentally sustainable ways. My strength as a conceptual designer enables me to translate my clients’ goals into practical strategies and ambitious designs for the integrated development of buildings, infrastructure, and open space.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the Ahmedabad School of Architecture, I have also taught as an adjunct professor on the Faculty of Drexel University from 1996 to 2006. I have presented extensively at professional conferences and maintain a research interest in the historical and ongoing transformation of urban form.
